    Post ample of original format of data: i.e. two cells to be combined?

    Format 12345678 as Custom "0000-0000" (without quotes)

    Re: Custom Number formatting

    @Jose I thought that would work too but it has this effect

    12345-12345,12345-00000

    It puts zeros at the last set of 12345 any ideas?
    thank you

    @johnThe example is 12345-12345,12345-12345 one cell with all contents
    thanks

    Re: Custom Number formatting

    Excel treats the 20 digits as number but is only accurate to 15 significant figures ( I am sure that is the reason).

    So

    12345123451234512345 ==> 12345123451234500000

    Re: Custom Number formatting

    Hi Barbara,

    Please note that adding dashes and commas to the set of "number" will make it a text string and therefore it can't formatted by using Custom formatting feature in Excel. Only if your number is 15 or less digits can be used for formatting.
