    formula to determine time difference

I have an excel spreadsheet with multiple columns, one of which list the address state abbreviation. I live in EST and would like to create a column that would show + / - difference between my time zone and the time zone of the state shown. What formula can be used to do this?

How do you want to handle states that straddle two time zones?

Not sure yet. I may have to manually do that, unless someone has an idea, but if the bulk of the sort is done it would make my life easier

I might have an idea, do you have some type of example template? Are you going to use full state names, abbreviations, periods (ie D.C.), etc.?

I did a nested equation using the two digit abbreviation. It's long but works. Not sure now how to work the split time zone states.

Your best approach may be to use zipcodes (if you have them)
This site has a nice list (zipped) that you can download for free.

Then you could use a VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH to get the time zone offset.

Is that something you can work with?
