Difference between two dates based on date and hour

I am looking to create a formula that will give me the time worked on a project based on a date that is formatted like the following 9/24/15 8:30AM and 9/25/15 9:00AM = 8.5 hours not 24.5 hours. I want to have it tell me in hours but I don't want it to include hours I am not at work. I work 8-5 M-F so the formula would have to factor weekends as well. Thanks

I checked there already and I am sure there is one that relates to my question I just can't seem to find it, I might not be understanding the terminology being used. I assume it has something to do with one date minus the other * 24 and then some sort of reference to the specified hours but not sure. I checked again just in case I missed something but I just can't find anything.

cmorten82, I'm not sure how you get 8.5 hours out of the time between 9/24/15 8:30AM and 9/25/15 9:00AM. Can you please clarify?

Re: Difference between two dates based on date and hour

If I am in a regular workday then I would work from 8-5 with a 1 hour lunch. I start a project at 8:30AM on the first day and end at 5pm and I would spend 7.5 hours working on that project because I took a 1 hour lunch I don't want to count that time. Then I come in the next day and work from 8-9am making the total project time 8.5 hours. I don't want to count anytime that I am not actually working on the project and that goes the same for weekends. Thanks and sorry for I mentioned the weekends earlier but not the lunch.
