    Vlookup Issues

I have a large excel sheet with many tabs and tons of information so I decided to use the Vlookup function to pull my imported data into the correct cells. The "look up" data uses a sequential number starting at 1.1 and ascending from there. My issues happens when I get to 1.10 or 1.20 and so on. The value that gets returned is the one associated with 1.1 and 1.2 respectively. I checked to make sure everything was stored as a number and I tried making sure there were 2 decimal places on the higher numbers but nothing seems to be working. I have created this sheet many times and this is the first time I am encountering this problem. Please, if you have any suggestions, let me know!

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

I cannot get the issue to duplicate itself in an example spreadsheet and I cannot disclose the actual spreadsheet due to sensitive information. Would Pictures help? I can take a screen shot of what I am looking at and maybe once you can visualize it you may have suggestions on what I am doing incorrectly?

Perhaps create a small mock up?

Without seeing the issue it could be a decimal place issue. Maybe you have everywhere 1.10 and so on so only show 1 decimal place instead of 2 and that's why 1.10 is returning 1.1 and so on. Pictures would be a start in helping with this.

    Re: Vlookup Issues

It's hard to say without seeing any data, but appears that you are running into the problem where 1.1 is equal to 1.10 as far an Excel is concerned when they are numbers. When they are text, 1.1 does not equal 1.10. Having two decimals on the larger numbers (1.10 and 1.20) only changes what they look like, not their actual value.

Is your data importing as numbers or as text? If you change your sequential numbers on the data tab to text, and make the higher lookup points 1.10 and 1.20, and the leave the lower ones as 1.1 and 1.2, does that help?

    Re: Vlookup Issues

Looks like changing all the number over to text worked. I tried only changing the ones that were causing the issue but it didn't seem to help. After I changed them all from number to text it pulled the correct values from my imported tab. Thank you all so much for the help. It is greatly appreciated!
