Question How to perform a formula on adjacent cells?

    Hey!
I've run into a small problem while creating my sheet. I'll use a screenshot to explain my issue:
    screencap.PNG

Basically, I want to search the name column for a specific name (for this example we'll use Bruce). It should search the column to see if "Bruce" is present in it, and perform a formula on the five adjacent cells in its row (in this case I need to get the average). So it should find the average of 6, 5 , 3 , 3 , and 1.

Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks in advance.

Generally it's better if you attach your workbook instead of a screenshot. Then we can actually test a solution in your file. Most people won't take the time to look at your screenshot and type in the data to create a file.

    I would try this:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

where Z9 is the cell containing the name you want to match.

    Untested.

This will work but it's dirty as it gets. That said, it will work.

In G7, enter the name that you want to have an average for.

In any other cell enter this:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

See attached workbook for how I did it.

Edit: 6Strings version is much sexier

Sorry! I didn't realize how the forum worked. Thanks so much for the quick replies! Both of them work. I've edited the post with an attachment, but the case has been solved. Thanks again!

This one of the only places where you can see a formula described as "****"!
