Using a defined name within a dropdown list

    Hi

    Can someone help me please?

    from the core data below

    JAN FEB MAR

    Bob 50 20 55
    Geoff 75 51 21
    Fred 1 55 11

I want to create a drop down list so I can show a single month rather than all data
    Eg.
    Dropdown JAN

    Bob
    Geoff
    Fred

I know I could right lots of IF statements and I also came up with idea of giving a Defined Name to each month and pointing the Vlookup at the dropdown but excel doesn't recognise the drop down cell as a defined name.

So is there any easier way to do this or how do I tell the Vlookup that Cell XX is a defined name

    Thanks

    Ian

Confusing, should the dropdown show the names, or the first column of numbers?

An attached workbook with a sample, showing the expected results is much easier to follow. (just type in the expected result and highlight the cell to make it obvious where we should look).

    Something like this, maybe...

    =INDEX($B$2:$D$4,MATCH(N2,$A$2:$A$4,0),MATCH($J$1,$B$1:$D$1,0))

where J1 is you DD box and N2 to N4 is the list of ames.
