Autofill does not recognize pattern: 1000-1, 1001-1, 1002-1...

    Hello,

I need some help customizing my worksheet to autofill the numbers listed above. Instead of following the pattern of 1000-1, 1001-1, 1002-1, Excel is autofilling as 1000-2, 1001-2, 1002-2... Is there a way to change this formatting?

Here's what I actually have in the cells:

    FLAIR
    MODEL SN-580-24-AB
    Serial Number: XO1000-1

I need to change each serial number to XO1001-1, XO1002-1...

    Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Would this work if I have other data in the cell? Each line item is in a separate cell.

Can't really answer your question without seeing the spreadsheet.

Here's the spreadsheet I'm working on. When I drag down, it doesn't populate the correct number sequence. I hope you can help. Thanks!

I actually found exactly what I need to do an another website. I just need to know how to edit it for my sheet. Here's the question and solution:

    Much like one would type:
    1
    2
and then drag the corner to fill in the numbers from 1 to, say, 100, I would like to do something similar without having to type every single entry.
    I need:
    3101-1
    3101-2
    3102-1
    3102-2
    3103-1....
    all the way to
    ...
    3171-2

    In A1, write 3101-1
Then in A2, use the following formula:
    =IF(VALUE(RIGHT(A1,1))=1,LEFT(A1,5)&2,CONCATENATE(VALUE(LEFT(A1,4))+1,"-1"))
    Then drag down.

Any idea how I can edit this?

What is not working with the solution you were given in post #2? Please attach your worksheet.

The formula in the first response does work, but I need to include the words "Serial Number" before it. I should have mentioned that in the original post. Also, the pattern needs to be every 3 cells. My worksheet is attached above. Thanks
