Debit and Credit Columns Formula Needed

Hello. I use excel for my checkbook register/ledger... The formula I have been using is =E5-C6+D6
C- (Debits) withdrawals
D- (Credits) Deposits
E is the total

The issue I am having now that more months are added. Every time I change an credit/debit amount the formula takes about 1-2 minutes to adjust. Can anyone suggest a solution that would change instantly?

can you try this formula
SUM(E2,-C3,D3). And just hard code all of the closed month's ending balances on column E.

That formula is doing the same thing. Takes awhile for it to update. I try planning the upcoming bills in a month or two ahead. That is probably the issue. I guess there is no other resolution really.
