circular reference problem, help

hi everyone, I keep getting a circular reference in error in cell d1 when i divided a1 by b1. any ideas on how to get around this? basically what i'm doing is dividing payroll ny hours to get average wage. any help would be great, and thnaks in avance for the help.

Without seeing the spreadsheet and the formula's involved it would be impossible to provide advise.

What is in cells A1 and B1? Do they have formulae? And, if they do, do either or both of them refer to cell d1? Or each other?

Maybe post a sample workbook that demonstrates the problem.

hi southward, nice to hear from you again. the formulas are just simple <=sum(A1/B1)> to give a $ value. A1 is Sales Budget, B1 is hours to get average hourly wage.
I see the issue now, it's because I used the AHW to calculate the hours from sales budget. I'll have to figure out another way to get around this. any thoughts thou?

hi southward, I figured out my problem, I had used the cells to calculate hours, which is why I had a circular error. on a different note, I' trying to do a vba code to hide rows on 2 different worksheets, but can't get past the first. can you take a look at the attahced file to see how I can get it to work on 2 sheets? basically I'm trying to hide seasonal departments when not needed, but they have differnt rows on each sheet. any help would be greatly appreciated. and thanks again for all the times you've helped me.

I looked at your worksheet. Unfortunately I am not very good at those kinds of macros.
I suggested you start a new thread with a title that will get the attention of a VBA guru.

Also I noticed that the password you have in the macros to unprotect the sheets isn't the correct password.
