Unable to save or repair a file

I am trying to save an excel workbook that is made up of worksheets from various other workbooks containing formulas and references. I know that I will need to update the formulas and references but need to at least save the workbook as is. When I try to save the workbook this is the error I receive:

Errors were detected while saving '[path\Filename]'. Microsoft Excel may be able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in a new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel.

If I click continue, it asks me to re-save the file and then I get another error indicating that the errors impossible to repair.

Any idea how I can fix this so I can save the workbook?

    I am using Excel 2010

    Thanks!

To resolve this issue you need to install Excel 2010 hotfix package and enable it.

It seems that your Excel file gets corrupt, to restore a damaged file you can use a third party tool.

Re: Unable to save or repair a file

I have run into this same issue, only with a very large spreadsheet that (always?) throws this error. The only way I have been able to get around this is that I had to make an exception within Windows Defender for the folder I was trying to save this in.
Once that was set as a regular exclusion in Windows Defender settings, I have *always* been able to save it. I've never been able to find anything which was obviously wrong with that file.

Now, "turning off" security never seems like a great idea. But there sure seems to be something that Win Defender cannot handle properly with this one.

My suggestion is give this a try for your specific save difficulty. If it works, hooray. If not, just remove that exception and you are unchanged. (No better, but unchanged.)
