    Excel thinks I'm not trying to type a formula?

    There's a picture of what I have typed in the cell along with the error. I haven't the slightest clue why this is happening, the formula looks correct to me. Any help is appreciated greatly.

    ie = (X4*y4 +AB4*AC4)*AL4 etc

    Hi,

    If you're wanting to multiply for instance X4 x Y4 then you need to include the mutiplication operator '*', much like you include the addition operator in AA4+AE4.
    i.e.

    ....(X4)*(Y4)

    Ah, yes. I actually knew that but for some reason today I just could not think of that. Thank you both very much.
