Excel Forumla Count Number assigned to Name

Hi,

Im new to forums so sorry for any mistaked etc.

Basically i have a spreadsheet and it goe like this...

'-' seperateing cells

Name 1 - 1
Name 2 - 3
Name 3 - 2
Name 2 - 1
Name 1 - 3

And so on

I am wanting to add the number on the left but per name.

So
Name 1 will have 4
Name 2 will have 4
Name 3 will have 2

So its a COUNTIF but deosnt need to not count the names when occuring but it needs to SUM up the number in the cell to the right of the names to get a total per name.

Hopefully this is explained okay anyway.

Please ask for more infromaiton if needs be.

Use SUMIF instead of COUNTIF ?
