criteria for inclusion in data set

I have a large longitudinal data set. I want to include participants that meet a certain criteria by or before a particular age when analyzing data from an observation at a later age. Specifically, I want to know their poverty status by/before age 15 and if they had a certain designation by/ before age 15 when looking at their outcomes at age 26. I think I should be able to do this with an if statement but I just cant figure out how to do it.

Unfortunately, we'll not be able to figure it out unless we can see what you're talking about....

Please attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is enough data to demonstrate your need. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary. Remember to remove ALL confidential information first!!!

Taking a real stab in the dark here. I added two helper columns that populate with formulas. The first helper column (G) will return a value if the participant is 15 or younger and the j4_core is 1 (which I assume to be true) using the formula:

The second helper column will return a value only the participant had a poverty value of 1 at age 26 and a j4_core value of 1 at the age of 15 or younger using the formula:

I added a table in L1:M3 that shows the total participants in poverty at age 26 and those that were j4_core at age 15 or younger. The latter is calculated by summing column H. Here is a copy of your file with the helper columns and formulas applied: Copy of MOCKUP WKBK.xlsx
One thing you may want to consider is what do you do in the cases where there is no data on the subject at age 26, such as participant A00018?
Let me know if you have any questions.
