How do i Grey out cells when the date does not equal todays date?

I'm creating a spreadsheet for a daily reconciliation for my company and i am trying to make it easier for those folk who do not pay enough attention to detail. Is it possible to grey out cells if today's date does not = today? so if The spreadsheet is organized by date (the columns) and i want to make today's column big a bright so that the user who is entering in the data clearly knows that it is the correct column to use. And i want all other columns other than today's date a grey color so its very easily decipherable which column to key in data. is this possible? if so can someone help me?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Check out conditional formatting. Use the 'Use a formula...' option and use a formula like

    Formula: copy to clipboard

where column A is the column containing the dates. Define the formatting you want and apply it to the column of cells.

    Try this in the attached.

Yellow the range in question as the default stand-out range.

Then apply this Conditional Format formula to that same range.
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Formatted with a greyed-out background.

Does this do what you want?

    Hi,

Pictures are rarely much use. You have a workbook so upload it in order that we can see your request in context.

Maybe not. Excel may be able to read it. But of course this is an Excel forum not a Google docs forum. If GD has conditional formatting functionality then there's a chance it's similar to Excel but we'll only know when we have sight of the file, which makes it even more important that we see the file. You should perhaps have mentioned this in your first post?

Well, from my understanding it is very similar to an Excel worksheet. So i'm confident that it wouldn't pose any problems.
I exported my sheet to an excel file. Let me know if it works.
