Categorical Formula (Sorry, don't know how to describe it!)

This is my first time posting and I'm a novice at Excel, so please be patient.

I'm currently working on a research project for my university that involves a lot of categorical data entry. Part of the project is locating certain places with street names and neighborhoods. The problem I'm having is that there are a ton of street names and it's inefficient for me to have to look up where each one is. What I'm trying to see is if it's possible to create a formula that allows me to enter a street name in one cell, and then in the adjacent cell for the neighborhood name to appear. I have a list of which street name corresponds to which neighborhood.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me or just let me know that it's not even possible.

    Best, J

    Hi J,

    Welcome to forum.
It sounds like you need a formula with can lookup certain value in a table and if it founded in that table then return the same as result value.

It would be great if you can upload a sample spreadsheet with expected result.

For uploading the Go to Advance and see the navigation and click on attachment and attach the sample.

    Regards
    Ankur

    Hey Ankur,

Thanks so much for responding! What you said sounds what I need, but I'm not entirely sure.
I made a new sample worksheet with what I'm trying to get.

    Again, thanks so much!!

So when you put street name you want to B column automatically fill the Neighborhood.

    Is it you want?

Here is a function for the same VLookup.

you read more about this function here below mentioned link.
    http://www.gcflearnfree.org/excel-ti...ookup-function

I have created a table then put the below formula

    B2=IFERROR(VLOOKUP($A3,$H:$I,2,FALSE),"")

    Yes, that's exactly it.

Sorry, but it's all a little overwhelming. Also, I have a 2008 version of excel, so your copy of the attachment apparently wasn't functioning on mine. I believe I have to download a newer version for it to operate, but I could be mistaken.
