    Bowling Averages for cricket

Hi guys, first time poster, but I am in dire need of some help.

I know very basic controls in excel but am in need of something a little more complex.

I am trying to put in some cricket scores and here is my problem:

When I put in the overs as 8.5(A1), the runs as 41(A2) and the wickets as two(A3), the average works out fine (A2/A3), but the strike rate (A3/A1) and Economy Rate (A2/A1) are wrong. The Strike Rate is coming up as 25.5 when it should be coming up as 26.5 and the Econ Rate is coming up as 4.82 instead of 4.64. I am assuming this is because it is reading 8.5 as 0.5/10 whereas I want it to read 0.5/6.

Can someone please help me with this problem.

    Thanks in advance, THB.

    Hi,

I get 23.53 for the strike rate (A3/A1) so I don't understand how you get 25.5.

Please explain clearly what you mean by strike rate and Econ Rate and how they should be calculated - one or two examples of each would be a useful check.

In addition would you change your location to something meaningful please. We ask for this for a reason since it often helps when framing answers what your regional settings might be and what date formats you may use.

    Re: Bowling Averages for cricket

thats because the 8.5 is seen as 8 and 1/2 not as - decimal - not overs an balls
    8 overs 5 balls
    or did yor mean
    8 overs and 3 balls - which would be 8.5 ?

you would need to divide the 5 by 6 to get the correct decimal fraction and then times by 10

    =INT(A1)+(((A1-INT(A1))/6)*10)

    which gives
    8.83
OR did you want to convert to the number of balls

not into cricket so, not sure of the stats

    Strike Rate

    =(INT(A1)*6+MOD(A1,1)*10)/A3

    Econ rate

    =(A2/(INT(A1)*6+MOD(A1,1)*10))*6

    Re: Bowling Averages for cricket

In terms of cricket, strike rate is the amount of balls taken per wicket. So if a bowler bowls 10.2 overs (62 balls) and takes 5 wickets, the strike rate is 12.4 because it takes them, on average, 12.4 balls to take a wicket. But when I put that into my formula ((S8*6)/T8) where S8 is the overs (10.2) and T8 the wickets (5) the formula spits it out as 12.24.

It's the same with the Economy Rate. The Economy Rate is the amount of runs per over. So if a bowler bowls 10.2 overs (62 balls) and goes for 54 runs, the economy rate is 5.226. But when I put that into my formula (U8/S8) where U8 is the runs (54) and S8 is the overs (10.2) the formula spits out 5.294.

    I'm from Australia.

No need to do that. The point of the forum is that answers are available for others who may have similar future requirements.

We would appreciate it though of you would change your location to something sensible.
