difference between date as dd.mm.yyyy and dd/mm/yyyy

    Hi everyone,

The company is forcing us to switch to a Virtual Desktop and to stop working our own Desktops because of security, reliability, etc...
I develop some tools for our analysts from time to time an not even a few ours later I am getting people complaining that the tools don't work because the input in (the new) excel wants dd/mm/yyyy instead of the usual dd.mm.yyyy.
Question is then, how do I tell excel that both date formats are ok? Is it a general setting of the program or is it something to do with the Operating System...? I am a bit lost and the Microsoft help only tells me how to format things, not how the actual input should be typed.

I hope that makes sense... :D

    Many thanks!

If you use dates as a dates then there is no difference in excel.

I do have it declared as date... Hence that it is so weird. The formula EDATE throws up a #Value error when dates are given with points :/

That's because your dates are text.
You'ce lost formatting at some point.

    You could try

    =EDATE(SUBSTITUTE(A1,".","/"),3)
