    Help! Moving selective data

    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone is able to help as I am at a dead end.

I have a spreadsheet of 23,000 lines in two columns of data. Column A has data in every cell and Column B has data in a selection of cells, the others being blanks.
What I need to do is merge the data so those cells in colum B that hold data overwrite/update those in colum A, but the cells in column B that are blank don't overwrite the existing data in Column A

I am sure there's a formula pattern or an IF function but I just can't work it out.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would create a 3rd column C. Type this in and drag down.
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Then I would copy Column C and paste the values in Column A.

Highlight the cells in column A and B, then press the F5 (GoTo) key, click on Special, then on Blanks and OK. Then begin to enter a formula by typing =, and then click on the cell immediately to the left of the active cell, and then do CTRL-Enter. All the blank cells in column B will be filled with the corresponding values from column A. You can then fix the values in column B so as to remove the formulae, and then you can delete column A.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete
