Question Formula issue in spreadsheet every attempt causes wrong value

    Hi Guys,

Wonder if any of you can help me out here.

Ive only ever built 1 excel file with formulas before and that wasnt as complex as this one im working on now.

Ive got to a point that i have tried and tried and tried to get the formula to work but i cant seem to get it right, ive attached the file in question but basically i cant figure what formula i need for this file.

Values inputted into column D should expire after 30 days so value in 1 should be removed at 30, value in 2 should be removed at 31 etc but also the value in column E should reflect that and also reflect the addition of any other value placed in column D all being under the same rule of expiring at 30 days.

Ive tried =E56-D1+D57 In the column and row where the value expires and ive tried dragging (by the lower right corner of the cell) but all that happens is the value "1" appears in ALL cells in that column.

    Im stuck

    Please help

Re: New to excel and now got myself stuck

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

(This thread should receive no further responses until this moderation request is fulfilled, as per Forum Rule 7)

Re: Formula issue in spreadsheet every attempt causes wrong value

First, I'm not sure your post title still meets the forum rules but I'll try to help you with some advice.
I'm not sure I understand from your posted question what it is you are trying to achieve.
Your spreadsheet is somewhat busy with a lot of information but no way to interpret what results you want to achieve.
You're referring to column D and the values expiring after 30 days then 31 etc. Which values in which cells would this refer to? Which value is the one that the others refer to? Which cells downstream from that cell will refer to it. It appears that cell D3 is a key cell and a lot of other cells use it as a reference.
Try to limit the amount of info in your spreadsheet and show what you want, what or which cell is set and which cells should change and how they should change - what it is you want in those cells.

Having the received the go ahead from Ben I'll post a solution.
Paste the following formula in E7 and double click to get it to copy down:

Let me know if you have any questions.
PS. If this solution resolves your issue then for those who may come looking for a similar solution in the future, I would say a title more like "Summing a specific range" would be appropriate.
Consider taking the time to add to the reputation of everybody that has taken the time to respond to your query.
