Function to count the number of times an item appears , fulfilling conditions

in an Excel spreadsheet I have the following distribution:
In the range D8: AH8, are correlative dates 1 to March 31
In the range D9: AR9, text data
In the range AV8: AV22, dates.
What I need it is a formula to tell me the number of times a particular item repeats range D9:AR9, as long as this information is under a date row D8: AH8 that, in turn, be contained or match any of the dates of the column: AV8:AV22.

A SMALL file will have about 20 rows worth of data.
