    1 worksheet condition versus another

I'm trying to count the number of times that "New" appears in a range from 1 worksheet condition versus another. I want to go to January and look for "SILAVA". Then I want it to count how many "New" appears $a$1:$w$30. As there could be many SILAVA within January A7:A36. I want them to group SILAVA and count “New”.

Here is the formula that I'm using, but returns a #Value.

    =COUNTIFS(January!$A$7:$A$36,"SILAVA",Master!$A$1:$W$30,"NEW")
If I use one criteria at a time I return results. As soon as I combine the conditions I receive error.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

The Countifs can't address tables on different sheets in the same function.

    Hi -

Can you post a sample spreadsheet with some data and a couple examples of the output you expect? It's REALLY hard to tell what's going on without looking at the spreadsheet.

Re: 1 worksheet condition versus another

    Shush52,

Put this formula in AM7 of the January sheet and copy it down to AM36:

    =IF(A7<>"silava","",COUNTIF(D7:AH7,"new"))

(If Col A is not "Silava", AM is blank, If Col A IS "Silava", count the "New"s in that row.

    Then AM37 is =SUM(AM7:AM36).

It shows rows 10 and 12 are "Silava". But only Row 10 contains "New"s, and there are 29 of them.
