I am using the subtotal formula but getting an error (#DIV/0!) result when the filter includes fields that are blank in the adjacent column. Is there a way to eliminate this? See attached example.

With the blanks you'll get an error. Try changing to this
=IFERROR(SUBTOTAL(101,C6:C1462),"")
