Question Formula to reference 9 cells and return 1 value

    Hi,
In one workbook with several worksheets - i want to enter data into one of 9 cells on one tab and have it reference on another.
    Here's the tricky part:

This is what the 9 cells look like:
    Cost Types R U I
    Site A 1357 1219 1380
    Site B 1500 2200 1000
    Site C 3000 3500 3250

I want the cell on the other tab to have either R, U, or I entered - and then the formula to know if it is talking about Site A, Site B or Site C.
What I thought I might have to do is on the tab that has R, U, I - I would have to name the cells as RA, RB, RC, UA, UB, UC, IA, IB, IC and then return the value based on the naming convention.
i think/hope this is possible, but have no idea how to do it - help...please...

You get better result on your question if you add a small excel file, without confidential information.

Please also add the expected results manualy in your file.
Notice my main language is not English.

I am not sure if this the solution you are looking for. I was a little confused by the difference site names between the tabs.

Re: Formula to reference 9 cells and return 1 value

    I'm having trouble explaining myself.
If the Site Type is A I want to return the value (R, U, I) that is in the corresponding row (row 4)
If the Site Type is B I want to return the value in row 5
Finally for C I'd like to return the value in row 6.

Or would this be easier to reference if I call the values RA, RB, RC, UA, UB, UC, IA, IB, IC and write the formula to return one of the 9 values?
If that is the easier way - can someone tell me how to write a formula for 9 options?

    Thanks Excel Wizards!

See in #3 for the solution (you did not reply on that).

If that is not the solution, please add a new excel file and add the expected results manualy in the file.

Re: Formula to reference 9 cells and return 1 value

I have provided three different ways additional ways to get the data. The general method would be to use a lookup formula(vlookup, hlookup, index and match) to get the data based on the criteria.
