Using IF statements to convert Time (month to word)

If column A has regular day stamps (Ex: 08-25-16), is there a way to have column B say the month in three letters form of Column A

    Ex:

Col A is the Date, Column B is the 3 letter month:
    01-16-16 Jan
    03-25-16 Mar
    08-01-16 Aug
    10-21-16 Oct

My goal is to later call on that 3 letter month so I can't just use standard formatting.
    Thank you.

    Hi

Copy this fromula into cell B1 (assuming your dates start in A1)

    =TEXT(A1,"mmm")

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Ace,

In column B, have it equal column A and format the B cells using a Custom format of "mmm"
    See attached.

Thank you loginjmor. It worked perfect.
MarivnP thank you for responding but in the original post I noted I needed a formula essentially and couldn't just choose custom format but thank you anyways.
