Exporting Data from one file to another - possible?

    hi,

not sure if this is possible or not, but i will try to explain what i need.

i am worign in a warehouse with several posts available, and need to log which employee manned which position at which date. i already have an excel table for the different positions. what i am looking for is a function like an "export" button that will create a new row in another file with certain data copied from certain cells that i will define. is this possible?

    thx

I have a car which carries three people. I want to drop one of them off at the first location and take the others home with me. Can I calculate the fastest route?

There is only one possible answer. Yes you can. As to how, this is impossible without the details.

I'm not sure how your OP ended up being a "shortest path problem". If it really is a shortest path problem, I will refer you to this thread http://www.excelforum.com/excel-form...el-solver.html and this tutorial http://www.excel-easy.com/examples/s...h-problem.html

If I am misunderstanding, and it is not a shortest path problem, then disregard.

    Lots.

*What is the path to the files you need to write to?
*Once you have the path, you can open that file and write to it. Where within the destination file does the data need to go (specific worksheet, specific table within a worksheet, etc...)
*Once you have that destination file open, and the area you need to write to identified, what needs to go there? Where in the source file is the data? Does it need any 'finagling' or just a simple copy paste??

Re: Exporting Data from one file to another - possible?

    * both files are located in the same folder in C: drive.
    * i need the contents of cells A1, A2, A3 etc. from file 1, tab 1 to be copied into cells B1, B2,B3 etc. in file 2, tab 1.

im doing it with copy\pasteright now, but looking for a more elegant and time saving solution for everyday use....

What about a simple ='[file1.xlsx]tab1'!A1 entered into file2 tab1 B1 and copied down? Or are you specifically trying to avoid creating a formula "link" between file 2 and file 1?
