    From Open Office to Excel

Hi I'm very new at spreadsheets, and I'm trying to transfer my general ledger from OpenOffice to MS Excel. No problems until I couldn't copy and paste the formula for the same task.

    =IF(AND(ISBLANK(E8);ISBLANK(F8));"";G7-E8+F8)

E8 being the Debit column, F8 the Credit column and G7 the previous balance to give the new balance. The simple solution to use =G7+E8-F8 is okay but every row shows the same balance which is unattractive

    Any clues please?

What exactly is the issue? Do you get an error value or no value at all?

Any chance you could attach the workbook?
Remove any sensitive information but leave the formula intact.

To attach a sample workbook click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

The formula in column F appears to work fine.

The one in column N that is showing a #VALUE error is because it's looking at the wrong cells.
It's trying to perform calculations on text strings hence the error.

Select cell N4 and press F2 to enter edit mode and you'll see coloured boxes round the cells it's looking at and you'll see what I mean.
