Create and use icon in drop list

I need to put an icon ( actually it is circles of red green blue and yellow colours) in a drop down list.
I have seen how symbols are inserted, but how to insert Icons as mentioned.

I do not believe this is possible. I am assuming you are talking about a Data Validation dropdown list. It just picks up text, no colors, no icons. I have never seen symbols inserted either--care to share?
