    Filtering dates in Excel

    Hello:

    I have a table containing two columns of dates- a start date and an end date. I realize there's a date filter but that only works for a column of data.

    For example, if I would like to filter data in order to show data for 10/2/16- how would I be able to do that if one column shows 10/1/16 and the other 10/5/16?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi

    If I understand your question, you may try Autofilter

    It can filter on more than one column. Also in date filter there is custom filter try this. It has greater or less than option also.

    It is batter if you upload a sample file specifying input and output you required.
    Regards.

    Yes, I have tried that but it can't find data between the dates. I've attached the file as an example.

    Re: Filtering dates in Excel

    You could add a new column C.

    C1 = some date like 10/2/2016

    Then, enter this formula in C2 and copy down:

    =AND(C$1>=A2,C$1<=B2)

    Then you can filter by column C = TRUE

    Re: Filtering dates in Excel

    You can also do it without a helper column by using the date filter 'is before or equal to' on the Start Date column, then the filter 'is after or equal to' on the End Date column. The disadvantage of this compared with Tony's solution is that it's harder to change the date you want to filter on - with his you just change C1, but with this dual-filter method you need to change both filters.

    I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
    If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
    If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
    You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

    This can be done by custom filter also. See the attachment. Click on the filter arrow --> Date Filter --> Custom. Then see what I used there to achieve this.
