    need formula to track machines down

    spreadsheet1.jpg
    i am new to excel 2010 and need help with a formula. i have tried for weeks to figure it out and have been unsuccessful. i need to take the values of 1 column and record the values of another column to another sheet.
    in the image above in column d , any cell with a d i need to record the value in column a to a list on another sheet. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello welcome to the forum.

    As you're new to Excel I'm not sure if you're familiar with Pivot Tables but this would be one easy way of getting a list of 'Down' machines on to another sheet. It can also be done with formulas with or without helper columns. The only down side with the Pivot option is that the table has to be refreshed to show any changes to the source data. Are there a set number of Machines or does the list change?

    Assuming that the sheet you having is Sheet1, then your formula will be in cell A2 on Sheet2
    Enter formula in A2 on Sheet2 and copy down
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    generally the list stays the same . sometimes we move machine out . but not normally

    See the attached file for an example of a Pivot table. Alternatively try Alkey's formula approach if preferred.
