COUNTIFS [Targeting a value that is the same as a cell name [A1, S55]

Hi Excellions,

I'm hoping someone can help. I am using a COUNTIFS formula, looking at:

• A column that holds a range of dates and then a “=”&A1 location for the criteria such as 11/10/16. Both areas are formatted as Date.
• A column that holds a range of codes (eg: S1, S55 etc.) and a “=”&A10 location for the criteria such as S55

The problem I have is the formula returns 0, yet when I filter the table, I see a total greater than 0.

The question I have is “Does the fact that I’m using S55 impact on the return, given that S55 is a Cell in Excel?”

If yes, does anyone have any idea how I get around it?

As long as you're using a cell to hold "S55", it should have no impact.

Can you post a SMALL sample file and show us what result you expect?

A SMALL file will have about 20 rows worth of data.
