    Recording a machines operating hours

    Hello
I have made up a Spread sheet for recording a machines operating hours. Everything I have tried to my knowledge is giving me the wrong totals. Its probably basic to some of you but I am stumped? Maybe something I haven't learnt as yet!
Here is my problem? if a machine has 200 hrs on hour meter. The next time it is recorded which I would like to do is weekly is 10 hrs running time. that makes it 210 The following week is 220 hrs. The total is 30 hrs running time. I seem to get all figures doubled or somehow its less. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.

Please upload a sample file, showing the data you're inputting and what you'd like to achieve - type the results manually if necessary - plus any formulae you've tried so far. Though I don't think it'll be a problem in this case, make sure you don't include any confidential information.
To upload a file, click 'Go Advanced' then scroll down and click 'Manage Attachments'.

We can then take a look at what you're trying to achieve.
    Regards,
    Aardigspook

I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

I you are comparing 4 weeks at a time, a starting point (B4) and an ending point (B7), could this work...

    =B7-B4+10

Of course, this is if it's always a multiple of 10

If you've always got four weeks, then this will work:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

I don't see where you've got the starting hours of 200 recorded, so I've had to add that just as '200'.

For the next month, the 200 would need to be replaced by the new starting hours. Let's say that in August you have 255, 265, 275, 290, with the starting hours being the 240 from the last month of July. The formula to give the running hours in August, using the figures from the 'Formulas' tab, would then be:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

I hope I've understood what you want and that the above makes sense. If not, please get back to us.

    Thanks Jeff
Yes I did that. It didn't give me the true hour reading total for the year. Depends on the weather also. Some days the machine may not run at all but I still want it to calculate to give me the accurate hours. Applies to mile or kilometers as well.

    Thanks Aardigspook
Going to try this and test on the new equipment with the hours of Zero. Didn't think to do it to every cell.
    Will get back to you

Re: Recording a machines operating hours

Thanks very much Jeff and Aadigspook. What you mentioned worked well but had to make the sheet 53 weeks for leap year. On ordinary years on week 53 you put the hours of 52 in and it adds up. Once again thanks
