    Conditional formatting with colour

    In the spreadsheet attached, how can I make cells containing ‘W’ to be shaded using green colour, cells containing ‘D’ to be shaded using yellow colour and cells containing ‘L’ to be to be shaded using red colour?

    The colours should self update since the letters are dynamic depending on team performance.

    Will appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks in advance.

    Note: The colour shading should be applied to the cells and not the text.
    W = win
    D = draw
    L = Loss

    Re: Conditional formatting with colour

    You haven't attached an Excel file - rather, a Word file with the same text as in your post, so we don't know which cells you want to apply this to.

    Anyway, select all the cells that you want this to apply to (assume that D2 is the first cell in your selected range), then click on Conditional Formatting | New Rule | Use a formula... , and then put this formula in the dialogue box:

    =D2="W"

    Click on the Format button and choose the Fill tab and select your colour (green in this case), then click OK twice to exit the dialogue box.

    Repeat for the other two conditions, choosing the appropriate colour for each.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete
