    countif and nested maybe???

I have a spreadsheet that shows when the product was activated and then when the service warranty will expire. Sometimes the product is purchased without a service warranty, therefore, I have left that field blank. We started selling the product in 2007, however, our tracking did not begin until January of 2008. Therefore, I have used a countif statement to show activations in column c to be less than 2/1/08 for January 2008. When I go to service, I want it to count the number of units under service warranty during that date. I am using a formula of h2-countif(d:d),"<2/1/08".

This works great for the first few. However after a few months the numbers are not accurate in the service column I because it is counting everything that is less than the next month. However, some of those have expired and shouldn't be counted within that. Can someone help me with this please?

    Thanks, Jake

Unfortunately, your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES. Do not crosspost your question on multiple forums without including links here to the other threads on other forums.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Expect cross-posted questions without a link to be closed and a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us to help you!

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site).

This is so weird. It isn't allowing me to upload the attadchment. I click on the paperclip and a very tiny box opens that I can't see any options.

I asked you to provide a link in your opening post to the other forum where you have asked the same question. Please do so. Thanks.

    EDIT: Link now added.

    Re: countif and nested maybe???

I have an issue which I think countif works for but I cannot figure it out:

One one spreadsheet I have two columns:
    Site # Active or Placebo
    15 a
    15 p
    18
    16
    24 p
    17 a
    18 a
    16 p
    17 a
    18 p
    25 a
    13
    12 p
    22 a
    22 a
    15 a
    19 a
    16 p
    13 a
    20 a
    15 p

On a second spreadsheet I have a column matching "Site#" above (same site numbers).

I want to count the number of non blank cells in the "Active or Placebo" column on the first spreadsheet that have site numbers in the "Site #" column that correspond with the same site number on the 2nd sheet -

So my second sheet would look like:

    Site # # Subjects
    15 4
    16 0
    17 2
    etc.

I have tried countif and it does not seem to have enough variables. Sumif doesnt seem to work either or I am not applying it correctly. Any help would be appreciated.
