    Color Grades For Multiple Conditions

    Hello House,

    I have this template that picks data from another set of worksheets. However, the major challenge i am having is with the color grades.

    I want a scenario where the conditions start with category A:

    CATEGORY A
    If a cell, eg B4="X", it should be colored yellow; however if B4="", it should be colored green.

    CATEGORY B
    If G4=B4 and are both empty, color green;
    If G4=B4 and both contain "X", color orange;
    If B4="X" but G4 is empty, color green;
    if B4 is empty but G4="X", color yellow.

    CATEGORY C
    If L4=G4=B4 and all contain ""X", color red;
    If L4="X" but G4 is empty, color yellow;
    If L4=G4 and both are empty, color green;
    if L4=G4="X" but B4 is empty, color orange.

    In summary,

    Empty cells are meant to be green.
    If two consecutive cells in two categories contain "X", color orange.
    If three consecutive cells in all three categories contain "X", color red.
    If a cell is yellow in Cat. A, but green in cat B, then it can only be yellow in cat. C if it contains "X".

    I look forward to your help guys. Find attached.

    Re: Color Grades For Multiple Conditions

    Hi,

    Why isn't G6 Orange? B5 & G5 both contain an X. This violates your rule If G4=B4 and both contain "X", color orange;
    Why isn't H6 Orange? C6 & H6 both contain an X
    ...and there are others.

    Why isn't G13 Yellow? B13 is Empty but G13 contains an X. This violates your rule if B4 is empty but G4="X", color yellow.
    ..and others

    There are no Colours whatosever in the 3rd Table

    To help with this we will need a definitive, consistent and non contradictory rule.

    Re: Color Grades For Multiple Conditions

    Thanks Richard for your prompt response. However, there is no inconsistency in my request.
    As for your observations,
    G5 is what is supposed to be colored Orange and not G6; yet it was colorless (Help needed)
    Likewise, H6 was supposed to be colored orange, but it was colorless as well (Help needed)
    And all others too.

    If you read my request very well, I didn't state that i know how to do it. The attached was for a guide and for the conditional formatting to be applied by whoever knows it. That is why i stated what i want in stages.

    Therefore, kindly ignore the formulas in the cells and act on my explanations.

    Thanks.

    Re: Color Grades For Multiple Conditions

    Hi,

    In that case it would help if you would manually colour the cells. That will avoid any misunderstanding and allow us to confirm any formulae with certainty.
    Make sure you cover all possible permutations.

    Just one caveat

    This may be a much simplified example and probably doesn't represent the size of your actual data. We often find that when we give an answer to what is a trivial non representative example when the solution is used with the real world data it doesn't work because of factors like string length and other stuff which is important but hasn't been mentioned.

    Therefore use your real workbook (or at least a cut down copy), and manually add the results you expect to see. Clearly identify which is original data and which are the results and in a note clearly explain how you have arrived at your results.

    Thanks Richard,

    This is the desired result. Manually colored.

    See attached.

    I copied the ranges to row 18 and removed the colours.
    Then applied Cond Formats to the row 18:28 tables.

    I did that so that I could compare.
