    Need help with indirect formula

I'm trying to use the indirect function to reference tab names to pull in data. The tabs use dates as the names (Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19, etc.). I've used several different versions of the formula I've found on excel sites and forums and they all spit out "#REF!" for me. I just want to be able to say, "go to the Feb 5 tab and return the value of cell C40". This doesn't seem too complicated, but I'm obviously missing something here.

Could someone help me out with this? I don't understand the syntax of the formula, with all the " , ' , & , and !. Alternatively, is there another way aside from indirect to look up data by tab names?

Re: Need help with indirect formula

    You tried?

    =INDIRECT("'Feb 5'!C40")

If you have a date in a cell that you want to use as a reference, then maybe...

    =INDIRECT("'"&TEXT(A1,"mmm d")&"'!C40")
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Re: Need help with indirect formula

    Thank you! That works perfectly!

Beyond that, do you know how to set up a reference to a cell? As in, be able to type a cell name into one cell that the formula references to make the cell ref dynamic?

    Thanks again.

Re: Need help with indirect formula

Do you mean you want to type "C40" in a cell and have the formula reference that?

    If so try:

    =INDIRECT("'"&TEXT(A1,"mmm d")&"'!" & B1)

where B1 contains a cell reference like C40
