Conditional formatting from multiple cells

Hi, if there are any conditional formatting wizards out there, please help............

This relates to Excel 2013.

On a marksheet:
• D1 to K1 are exam question marks (8 exam questions, students will answer 4).
• L1 is the Overall exam total, '=SUM(D1:K1)/4'
I would like L1 to fill red if only 3 values have been entered into cells D1 to K1. The marking scale is 0 to 100.
This red conditional formatting will indicate that an exam question mark may be is missing, and the exam script needs to be checked.
Any ideas?

Many thanks!

Re: Conditional formatting from multiple cells

Hi,

Using the formula

=count($D$1:$K$1)<4

SHould work for you. Note that this will highlight if any number less than 4 has been entered. To highlight specifically on 3,

=count($D$1:$K$1)=3
Rule 1: Never merge cells
Rule 2: See rule 1

Just in case you are unfamiliar with using CF...
1. highlight the range you want to apply the conditional formatting to
2. on the home tab, styles, select CF
3. select new rule, select use formula
4. enter sweeps formula...format fill RED
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
