    How do I type a person's age in years and months?

    Hi there,

    I would like to calculate the difference between two ages, i.e. (12 years, 10 months old) - (11 years, 1 month old) = (1 year , 9 months)

    I know how to find the difference between to cells, however, when ever I type in 12.10, excel changes it to 12.1

    Any advice would be welcomed!

    Thanks in advance

    Hi TeacherM,

    There is an option in excel called "Decrease Decimal". Just click the option you ll get what you want. Its under "Home tab" next to Merge & Center option

    Try:

    11 years, 1 month old -> 11.01

    12 years, 10 months old ->12.10

    Thank you for your replies.

    Phuocam, when I input 12.10 it either changes the to 12.1, or 12-OCT

    If the data is entered as simply decimal numbers you will not get the correct results:

    e.g 13.04 (13 years 4 month) in A1

    11.09 (11 years 9 months) in B1

    in C1

    =A1-C1 = 1.95 not 1 year 7 months as required
