Remove Password Protection in Excel 2010 when no visible sign password is set

I have a workbook that is password protected. There are no obvious signs that a password is set on the workbook.

When the workbook opens the "Protect Workbook" feature under "Info" isn't highlighted. I've clicked on all the options under the feature and no password is set.

I've looked on the Review Tab and none of the password protection features are highlighted. However, I did go through and check to see if anything was selected thinking perhaps the highlighting was just not working.

I have the password, that's not the issue. The issue is this is a public document, no it's not set up as a "shared" workbook so that's not password protected either. People need to be able to view and add to the workbook without knowing my password. Where else can I look?

The workbook was created by someone else and I inherited it, they assigned the password. That person has since moved on so I can't ask them what they did.

I've never run into this before.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Just be aware that we are not able to help you to circumvent any security on the workbook, as it's against the forum rules. However, I don't believe this is what you are asking us to do.

How do you know that a password has been set? At what point are you being asked for it?

If you ARE asking us to help you crack the password, then I am afraid that this thread will have to be locked. Please confirm.

Attach the password "protected" file (if you know the password as you said)

No, I have the password to the workbook. What I need to do is get it removed from the workbook so others in my department can access the workbook without my password.

There are none of the "regular" signs that there's a password assigned to the workbook - the features under the review tab are not highlighted and when I check under "Info", "Protect Workbook" there's no password assigned there so I don't know how my password is assigned. I inherited the workbook a year ago and the person who gave the workbook to me assigned the password, which I have in my possession. I just want to remove it so the whole department can see and add to the workbook without my giving up my password.....

No, I cannot upload the workbook. That would get me fired.........

OK, well there's not a lot we can do. The only thing I can suggest is that you look in any macros that have been set up in the workbook. If the password protection came from a macro in a different workbook that no longer exists, then you won't be able to get in, whatever you try, and as I said, however genuine your request might be, we cannot help you to crack it.

I believe I'm just going to copy and paste the content to a new workbook and be done with it. I've never seen this happen before.

You can delete content (check if password still exist) and publish empty file here

So that is simply to remove
while open type password, while Save set General Options, delete password (dots) , uncheck read only, save as different name and that's all
