Hello!
This site has been really useful in helping me learn little pieces and parts of Excel over time, but I'm struggling to apply some new learning that I need for a work-related spreadsheet.
I'm trying to auto-generate SKUs for a small food distributor. There are only three columns relevant to this problem: B, C and D (product name, producer name and SKU, respectively).
I want to generate a SKU that takes the first three letters of the product name; followed by three numeric characters starting with 005 and progressing by 5 until you get to a new product name; followed by a hyphen and the two alpha characters that represent the producer.
Thus if I have four types of Apples (red, green, gold and blush) grown by Farmer Sue, the SKUs would read:
APP005-FS
APP010-FS
APP015-FS
APP020-FS
I'm under the impression this isn't rocket science, but I'm stymied. Thanks for any assistance! Sample file attached; please ignore columns beyond D.
