    1. Total combined same email being on both sides would be one collection (is group the correct word?)
    2. A solitary email on one side would be one collection

So in the end the colors would be "Defragged", as in moved and grouped together

From what I can see, what you want to do is group things by the second column. If this is so, then a pivot table can do the job.

One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

Thanks for the reply but the group that contains 74,75 would also include 95,96,97.

It would be more like if a cell in coloum B = (B or C) they get grouped.

    Is that possible?

Re: Is there a way to gather, sort, or collect from two columns?

I have corrected the column references Please reread to understand
I don't think group is the correct word
    I think I meant sort

I identified them by color by searching C,D columns one value at at time from D values, and colored each row I found the value on whether it was C or D.
One common value is found in each color

For example 2b540e62d0b63ae1b95acebbf001fc07Фgmail.com I highlighted in purple is found in all the pink but not the one that is not pink.
NOTE: the purple in the picture is only to highlight the common value for you to see, other than that it has no bearing on the file.

In the new sample file I have manually sorted them they way I'm looking for by A. This all that is needed.

It would be nice if they were sorted chronologically oldest to newest from within there individual colors because they are email conversations.

Sort by B to see change them back to the way they were.

Re: Is there a way to gather, sort, or collect from two columns?

I see what you are trying to do. It's not so much sorting as it is a matter of matching. I've come up close on a couple of my attempts. I'm using match of information from column B to find the information in column C and then assigning a group based on the first row the match is found on. The problem is that there are duplicate "Joeblow" entries in both columns that are not part of the same group, so this method is failing.

Here is my shot at it using match and pivot tables. One comment, Groups 69 and 70 have valen78, the reason for this is JoeBlow links these two together - there is a small logical ambiguity in the data.
