Linking multiple sheets to one master sheet

I have a workbook that has a sheet for each month, so twelve sheets. I need to be able to create a master sheet with the data from the other twelve sheets combined into one.

I need them to be linked as well. So if I change something in the master sheet it also changes in the individual month sheet also. Or if i change something in the individual sheet it also changes in the master sheet.

Is something like this possible with a formula? Every time I try to use consolidate it screws it up.

You will (almost certain!) need VBA to do this: manage bi-directional updates with 13 sheets in not something that would be easily (if at all) addressed by formulae.

.... which begs the question: why not have them all on one sheet full stop :if you are planning that anyway???

I said the exact same thing. But that's the way the boss wants it done.

Do I need to make a new post in the VBA thread or can this one be moved over?

A moderator can move it (not sure of the process).

When you do move it, please add sample workbook with "Master" and 2 "Slaves" with clear instructions about what is required. Ensure workbook is the same format as your "live" workbook. Also provide ideas of volumes - current rows in month and transactions per month.

P.S. It is much easier to have the data on the "Master" , update the "Master" and then disseminate to the appropriate months. This can be done with formulae (or using Advanced Filter with VBA).

So you might want to consider whether this is a better approach which hopefully satisfies the boss!

So you're saying have all the information in the master sheet and then it will automatically update into the individual months sheets with a formula?

Yes ... this can be done: the best way is probably combining Advance filter with VBA to select all rows for a given month and copy/paste to the month sheet.

How you do this depends partly of how frequently data is added/deleted/amended and whether you want "real-time" update i.e change in "Master" is immediately reflected in the appropriate month, or a once a day update..

If the data volumes are high I would at least look at a VBA-based solution.
