    Sumif and Conditional Formatting

Hi need some help with conditional formatting and using a formula to create the formatting.
I have conditional formatting for duplicates for the first column, so all 6 in the first column are highlighted. What I want to do is create a formula to highlight cells if there is a duplicate # in the first column with a different # in the second column. If all the #s in the first column are the same and all the #s in the second column are the same, it would not be highlighted. The goal is to show any duplicates but with different data in the second column.

    Hope this makes sense.

I just solved this same problem in another thread. The CF formula and a sample file are posted there.

Oh, but one question about your data. In your second column, you have four of one and two of another. Which ones would you want highlighted?

    Re: Sumif and Conditional Formatting

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for responding! I'm not sure I understand how to apply the formula. Do I apply it to column 1 or 2?
To clarify, I don't want duplicates with different #'s in the second column. So realistically, the data in column 2 needs to all be the same for the same # in column 1.

For example an invoice in column 1 should link to the same # in column 2. If they are not the same, that means the same invoice # has been entered twice. Realistically, there are 2 different invoices, but show as 1 since it is the same #. The corresponding # in column 1 will determine if they are actually different.

To answer your other question, I would like the # in column 1 to be highlighted as they should be unique.

So in your example, you would want all the number in column 1 to be highlighted? Because none of the numbers in column 2 are unique.

How you apply the formula depends on where you want the highlighting to appear. I think we would save time if you attach your file, or a sample subset of your file. Manually shade the cells that you would want highlighted for that data.

Under the text box where you type your reply click the Go Advanced button. On the next screen scroll down and click on Manage Attachments, which will show a pop-up window to Select and Upload a file. Then close the window, and save your post.
