Formula to sumif with multiple criteria

    Hi community,

Need help with an excel rebus. I'm looking to a formula which can substitutes items = "SV" with same items starting from the items with highest value.
It's not possible to replace an item with another one. So "Apple" can be substituted with ohter "Apple".

I attach the file with example and desirable result.

    mrxcel.xlsx

thank you in advance for your help.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Are you able to clearly explain how you calculate the result of 14? At the moment I don't understand your data and how you want to manipulate it.

Explain what data you start with, what you end with and how you get from one to the other.

Re: Formula to sumif with multiple criteria

    Hi Richard,
    Thank you for your reply.

The first 11 items are the basic ones.

I calculated the result of 14 in this way:
    1) I substituted the first "Apple" with the value of 1 which is the only "Apple" available;
    2) I substituted the 2 "Banana" with "SV" respectively with 3 (the highest "Banana" available in "Substitutes") and 1 (the second highest "Banana" available in "Substitutes");
    3) Then I could substitute only one "Orange" of the 2 with value "SV" since in the substitutes there is only one "Orange" with value =number. It's 3 in this case.
    4) Finally I substituted the one "Cherry" with "SV" with 2 which is the highest "Cherry" available in "Substitutes".
    5) The sum is 14.

    Hope it's clear.
I can provide another sheet if needed.

    Thank you
    hern

See if this is what you are looking for. It uses a helper column.

    See attachment.

    Hi 63falcondude,

It works as expected. Thank you.
Is it possible to have the same result in one formula with "SUM"?

I will report this thread as solved once you give me the reply.

    thank you,
    hern

I wouldn't be surprised if this was possible to do in one formula (i.e. without a helper column). I just don't know how.

Hopefully somebody else can help you there.

    Well, thank you.
If there is anybody who can help with one formula, it would be great.
Otherwise this post can be "solved".

    thank you all

Re: Formula to sumif with multiple criteria

Got the same answer with a different helper, different output but the same sum.

Haven't even tried doing it in a single cell. This will require some thought over the weekend.

    Array entered helper formula is

Re: Formula to sumif with multiple criteria

    Thank you FlameRetired .

It looks it works like 63falcondude's solution.

In one cell it would be more comfortable because the main file has more column so I would have to add the helper columns and hide them.

    Thank you both
