    When Vlookups don't recognize the WBs they reference

    I have a sheet with a ton of vlookups to remote workbooks. They all appear to be working fine, except that sometimes I'll open one of the workbooks referenced, and the cell that references that wb doesn't update it's formula. For example, if I have this formula in my cell;
    Please Login or Register to view this content.
    , whn I open the PCA History workbook the formula changes to
    Please Login or Register to view this content.
    But sometimes, for some of my formulas, when I open the WB it's not recognized by the formula. If I delete just the file path, Excel wakes up and recognizes that the open workbook is the one it's supposed to be looking at.

    Can anyone explain this behavior and tell me how to keep my formulas focused on the wBs they're supposed to be looking at?
    I know I'm not stupid, but I suspect I'm a lot stupider than I think I am

    I'd have to see some examples. Sometimes when the file path gets too long (too many characters), it get's lost. Are you saying that the formula works when the workbook is closed but stops working when it's open?
