Wingdings and Character numbers

Please see the attached file.
I have inserted A1 and A2 with use of Insert/Symbols/Wingdings.

I want to use these symbols (stars) in a formula. When I do so, other characters are shown, namely the characters which are shown in the formula bar when mouse pointer is in A1 and A2.
And these are character 182 and 171 respectively.

Could someone explain why this is so, and how I could use the star symbols in a formula?

You need to change the font of the cells that contain the formula.
