How to filter if there are columns containing merged cells and drop down lists

    Hello!

It is hard to explain the task without showing the file, so I attach the file with the table.

There are two columns in this table, which contain names of people - column G and H.
Both columns, as well as column B, get values by making the user choose the name from the drop down list.

I need to be able to filter out a particular person to see what task is assigned to him/her (a student). When I attach filter to the row 2, and then try to look at values, all filters are empty.
I also have some merged cells, but I did try to un-merge them to see if this can solve the problem (though I do need these merged cells), the problem stayed the same - the filter is still empty.

I will be grateful for your help on how I can solve this issue.

    Thank you very much!

I have no idea what your expected results are BUT having merged will (does) cause nothing but problems.

I have idea why the layout is as it is BUT .....

Removing ALL merged cells allows the filters to work.

In my my view the merged cells in column C are purely cosmetic and add no useful value to the file.

How sad that excel doesn't allow to filter with merged cells. Yes, they are purely cosmetic, but that is very helpful and add visual clarity.
