    VIRTUOSO
    RUCTIOUS
    POURSUIT
    TURQUOIS
    VIRTUOUS
    POTOROOS
    OUTDOORS
    OUTROOPS
    OUTROOTS
    TUMOROUS
    OUTPOURS
    TORTUOUS

    I have this on a1 , i want conditional formatting to highlight first 7 letters that are same , thus it should highlight virtouso and virtousi

    Length of all letters are 8 characters

    What would be an equivalent next conditional formatting if I were to use length of characters being 7 characters where first 6 characters are same ?

    You cannot use CF to conditionally format part of a cell. You will need VBA for this.

    Conditional formatting has thingi called rule , maybe it can allow that , not sure

    Yes, I know how it works and I am sure. You cannot use it to conditionally format part of cell. You will need VBA for that.
