Populating a date field from another workbook is giving an erroneous date

I am trying to populate a date from one workbook/worksheet into another workbook/worksheet but it is displaying a different date.

When setting the cells format (or checking the format) the available date formats for each workbook gives different values to choose from.

In the source workbook/worksheet/cell the available date format is 3/14/2012 but in the destination cell when setting the format the 3/14/2012 option is not available but has an option of 3/15/2016 which is what I've chosen, however the resulting date is incorrect.

My source cell has a value of 8/5/2017 however the destination cell value shows as 8/6/2021. It seems the difference of 4 years in the two different options (3/14/2012 vs 3/15/2016) results in the approx. 4 years between the source and destination cells values (8/5/2017 vs 8/6/2021).

It seems I'd have to be able to format the source cell with the 3/15/2016 option to get this to work. I thought only the format style (not the values) mattered when setting a date format????

I'm not sure, but it's possible the workbooks original creation dates were about 4 years apart but it doesn't seem that should matter??
