Copy across a columns a formula that references rows going down

I have a need to create a formula that when copied across references rows down, instead of referencing columns across. In a simple explanation assume that I want to sum the values from Columns D6:M6 with a formula in cell D5. I'd like to copy the formula in cell D5 across but have the summing rows to become D7:M7, D8:M8, D9:M9, etc. I'm doing work with IRR and other financial indicators but I'm using Sum to describe the example

Is there some way I can create a formula that does this?

I'd prefer not to use Offset or other volatile functions if I can help it.

There is an attachment that has both examples.

Try this formula in B25 and fill across.
    Formula: copy to clipboard
