How can I count how many time a word appears in a range of cells, if there is more than one word in the cell.
For example (reference the attached): Counting how many times "pump" appears in the list attached. Or "flowmeter"? Given there are other words/numbers in the cell along with the specified word I am not sure how exactly to write the formula.
Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.
Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

You can use countif and wildcards
=COUNTIF(B2:B6,"*pump*")

What about if the refrenced word is a cell.
For instance =COUNTIF(range, "B3") and B3 contains pump
=COUNTIF(range, "*" & B3 & "*")
